Research and Development for the Solutions of Tomorrow
As part of funded projects, we work together with partners from science and industry to develop solutions for various issues relating to digitalization in production.
Tapping resource and energy efficiency potential through digital transformation
CERAHEAT4.0 addresses the problem of energy efficiency in the production of fibre-reinforced ceramics or CMCs (ceramic matrix composites) and the saving of energy with the help of digital optimization. Experimental data is converted into digital models and the optimization potential along a complex process chain is examined, verified and presented.
The aim of the project is to optimize the use of resources for the highly interactive CMC manufacturing process while simultaneously reducing energy consumption by around 40 percent. Maintaining the required product quality is mandatory.
DOME 4.0 will be a distributed open marketplace for European cloud and edge services
The aim of DOME is to support companies and public organizations in their digital transformation and to provide a catalog of cloud-to-edge offerings in Europe.
Self-optimizing production process through Industry 4.0 and AI
As part of this joint research project “ProDenker”, the value chain of additively manufactured fiber-reinforced composite ceramics (CMCs) is mapped on a data platform using digital twins. In concrete terms, this means tracking every process step from the raw material through an additive manufacturing process to the final processing, including quality assurance.

Project map
The dynamic project map makes it possible to maintain an overview of a large number of projects, filter them and thus gain quick access to specific information.
Operating system for production
FabOS forms the IT backbone for the adaptable automation of the factory of the future and the basis of an ecosystem for data-driven services and AI applications. German companies can benefit from their deep domain knowledge and experience of industrial products, complex and high-quality manufacturing processes as well as versatile and highly networked production systems (Internet of Things, Industry 4.0).
Artificial intelligence in product development
Strong partners from industry and research are working on a digital marketplace for artificial intelligence in product development. On this secure platform, users, providers and experts for AI can exchange ideas, place products and obtain solutions.
Understanding data, leveraging potential
The project “Inline production and quality control in the milling of metal and CFRP products” was launched in mid-2018.
It is scheduled to run for three years and is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy. In the MAI ILQ2020 project, the project partners are working on how quality in milling processes can be improved through the cross-company exchange of data.
